Custom Shipping Containers for Coastal Operations

Marine and waterfront sites expose containers to salt air, moisture, condensation, wind-driven rain, and demanding daily use. Conexwest developed two different container configurations to show how size, access, and modifications can be adapted around each coastal application.

The beige 40ft unit provided a larger operational footprint with multiple access points, while the blue 20ft unit offered a compact layout with personnel entry, a protected window, and cargo-door access. These are two separate builds designed around different needs—not two stages of the same project.

Operational Requirements

The projects required container solutions capable of:

Supporting secure daily access

Managing moisture and coastal exposure

Protecting doors, windows, and exterior openings

Providing layouts suited to different site footprints

Accommodating equipment, storage, or workspace needs

Using durable finishes and project-specific modifications

A single standard configuration would not work for every coastal operation. Each container needed to be designed around its intended use, available space, access requirements, and operating environment.

The Conexwest Solution

Conexwest developed two distinct container configurations rather than applying the same design to both projects.

The 40ft container offered more interior room and multiple exterior access points for projects requiring a larger workspace or equipment area. The 20ft container provided a smaller, flexible footprint with convenient personnel access, a protected side window, and original cargo doors for moving larger items.

Results & Benefits

Together, the two builds demonstrate how different shipping container sizes can be adapted for coastal use without forcing customers into one standard layout. The 40ft unit delivered additional space and flexible access, while the 20ft unit provided a compact solution for sites where placement and everyday entry were the priority.

Inspiration

These projects show how container size and modifications can be selected around the application rather than the other way around.

This approach can work for:

Marinas and boatyards

Ports and waterfront facilities

Marine equipment storage

Coastal utility operations

Harbor security stations

Fisheries and aquaculture sites

Maintenance workshops
