Case Study: 10ft High Cube Information And Visitor Center for the City of Lathrop

Cities don’t always need permanent buildings to connect with their communities. Sometimes they need something flexible, mobile, and easy to deploy. That was the case for the City of Lathrop.

The city was looking for a compact, eye-catching space they could use as a visitor and information center somewhere residents could walk up, get updates, ask questions, and engage with city services at events and public gatherings. The solution needed to be portable, secure, and visually strong. We partnered with the city to make that happen.

Turning a 10ft Container into a Public-Facing Information Center

Case Study: 10ft High Cube Information And Visitor Center for the City of Lathrop

We started with a new 10ft High Cube container and transformed it into a fully functional information and visitor center designed for public use.

One of the key features of this build was a custom roof-mounted soffit engineered to hold multiple TVs. These screens act as the main communication tool for city messaging, announcements, and visual content. Since the unit needed to move easily, the soffit was designed to collapse for transport and be raised on site.

To make the container more inviting and visible, we modified the cargo doors with plexiglass panels. This allows people to see inside while keeping the unit secure when closed — turning the container itself into a display rather than a closed box.

Along the side wall, we added a service-style window with interior countertops. This gave city staff a simple way to hand out materials, answer questions, and interact with residents during events.

Inside, custom shelving was installed for brochures, printed materials, and city literature. A full electrical package powers lighting, TVs, and any additional equipment needed for daily use.

Branding, Paint & Visual Presence

The exterior was finished in clean white paint, giving the unit a polished, civic-appropriate look that works across different environments from festivals to formal city events.

Instead of covering the container in graphics, the design intentionally keeps the walls minimal. The real visual focus is the soffit and digital displays, allowing the city’s messaging and visuals to stand out clearly and be updated as needed.

Engineering, Permits & Delivery

No engineering or permitting was required for this project due to its use as a mobile information and visitor center on city property.

Delivery was completed using tilt-bed transport. On site, setup mainly involved raising the collapsible soffit and installing the digital displays. Once in place, the unit was ready to use immediately.

This container was built to function as a mobile information hub for the City of Lathrop — a space where residents can learn about upcoming projects, city planning updates, local events, and community resources.

Because it’s fully mobile, the unit can be moved throughout the city and used wherever engagement is needed, without the cost or commitment of permanent construction.

By using a 10ft High Cube container, the City of Lathrop gained a compact, mobile, and visually engaging outreach space. With collapsible digital signage, transparent panels, service counters, interior shelving, and a complete electrical setup, this project shows how cities can use modular design to communicate better and meet the community where they are.
