The Broadcast Container: A Compact, Custom Solution for Schools

A broadcast container is a modified shipping container designed to serve as a media hub. For this project, we built one for a high school, giving them a dedicated space to record, stream, and broadcast everything from football and soccer to track and field. Instead of scattering equipment across different rooms or relying on makeshift setups, all of their sports communications now live in one secure, purpose-built unit.

What makes this project special?

It took only four weeks to build. Constructing a new building or converting an existing space would have taken months  and even during summer break, schools aren’t completely empty. Between summer classes, extracurriculars, and administrative work, ongoing construction can mean constant disruption, not to mention the dust and noise pollution that comes with it.

And let’s be honest, traditional construction projects rarely finish exactly on time. Delays can easily spill into the school year, interfering with daily activities. With containers, the process is much simpler: everything is assembled off-site in our warehouse, then transported to the school grounds fully built and ready to use.

Additionally, this container is built to evolve. While it was designed as a broadcast hub for high school games and announcements, it doesn’t have to stay that way forever. If the school’s needs change, the same unit could be repurposed into an office, a concession stand, or even a classroom extension.

Instead of being locked into one single function, the school now has a long-term asset — a space that can adapt and grow right along with them.

And of course, Conexwest has modified the container in its best traditions

For this project, we used a 30- foot-container and equipped it with three front windows, automated security shutters, and a roof access hatch with a collapsible handrail so staff can safely film from above.
 

To tie it all together, we painted the unit in the school’s colors, giving it both function and school spirit.

The result is a broadcast container that proves how dynamic and practical modified shipping containers can be. In just four weeks, the school gained a fully functional media hub that not only elevates their game-day experience but can also adapt to future needs.
